Fasting Before Surgery
FOOD/WATER: Fasting instructions will be provided by a nurse from the Surgery Center
Your prescribed medications will be reviewed during your pre-surgery interview. Any approved medications may be taken with a small sip of water on the day of surgery.
Do not take oral hypoglycemic medication or insulin on the day of surgery.
PLEASE DO NOT chew gum, eat breath mints, or use chewing tobacco after midnight.
Please take a shower on the morning of your surgery to help reduce the risk of infection.
You may brush your teeth, but rinse and spit without swallowing any water.
What to Bring
- Your insurance card and a valid photo ID
- DO NOT apply makeup, deodorant, creams, or lotions on the day of surgery
- A case for your contacts, glasses, or dentures
- Crutches (if undergoing knee or foot surgery) – check fit and receive usage instructions
- Any items or medications recommended by your doctor
- Any DME (Durable Medical Equipment) previously issued or in use, if applicable
- LEAVE ALL jewelry and valuables at home – the Center is not responsible for lost items
- Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing

No. For your safety, you must have someone drive you home after your procedure, as anesthesia or sedation may affect your ability to drive.
